Where has the year gone? I cannot believe we are halfway through 2019 already. Not to mention that I have been blessed to be your pastor at Woodside UMC for 4 years (and counting). These past 4 years have been far more than I could have ever imagined. To see the growth in numbers and in spirit the Lord has blessed the church with is truly a testament to God’s love and the love of the people for the future of the church. I continue to look for more of the same as we press forward in the name of Jesus Christ.
Well, Summer is here (WHEW) and the heat (double WHEW) is here as well. Be sure to pay close attention to the older folks, the younger ones and those who may have breathing difficulties during this time of the year. Check in on them often and make sure they have what they need to survive the sweltering heat and humidity. And be sure to drink plenty of water as it is the life-blood that God created us with. 70% to be exact.
Remember our freedom of independence as we celebrate the 4th of July. Remember all those who gave their time, their courage and, for many, their lives so that we can enjoy the freedoms that we have as Americans. God has truly blessed America and we need to thank Him for that as well. As Christians, work hard to remind others that the freedoms we have are for everyone around the world. Fight for freedom of justice as many of our brothers- and sisters-in-Christ are still living under many forms of oppression. We are, as Ken Ham’s book says, “One Race, One Blood”. We all are descendants of Adam and Eve and therefore are truly family. We need to treat each other as such and as God intended.
Next month is VBS (Vacation Bible School) month so get the word out there and see if we can’t fill the church with young people who need to hear God’s word and learn that Jesus loves them and Woodside UMC loves and cares about them too.
On a personal note, I have reached the halfway point in seminary studies and I thank you all for your support during this time. I thank the church and some others for financial support and especially my wife for her all-around support and encouragement as well. I look forward to continuing as your pastor and the completion of my studies as we go forward together to grow in Christian education and the growing God’s kingdom.
Have a blessed 4th and God bless,
