Meet the Pastor and wife
Hello. I am Pastor Mark and this is my wife, Helen. Helen and I first met while in Elementary School in Smyrna. We remained friends until 1977 when God brought us back together for good. We were married in 1981 in a Lutheran Church. We have 2 children. Son, Michael and daughter, Sara. Sara is married to Ryan Pitcher and they have a daughter, Abigail (born March 24, 2015) and a son, Benjamin (born January 19, 2018). Helen and I attended the Lutheran Church until 2008 when the death of her mother brought about an issue that made us realize we had lost the spirit of the Lord at that church. After not attending church for a few weeks we were feeling spiritually lost. We started searching for a new place of worship. After several attempts, Helen suggested we try Kenton UMC where we met Pastor Scot McClymont and the wonderful family at Kenton. After attending the Emmaus Weekend at Camp Pecometh in 2010, I started feeling led by the Holy Spirit to serve others in a higher capacity. I became the Lay Leader at Kenton in 2011. Later I became a Certified Lay Minister but still felt there was more God wanted me to do. In June of 2015 I acquired my license as a Local Pastor and was promptly appointed to Woodside UMC July 1st. I completed my studies at Wilmington University in 2016 and graduated in 2017 with a degree in Business Organizational Management. I began seminary studies (on campus and on-line) January 2018 at United Theological Seminary in Dayton, OH. with hopes of graduating May 2021. I am scheduled to go before the Board on Ordained Ministry in January 2021. Helen recently completed her studies as a CLM and has been assigned to Houston UMC near Milford. We feel truly blessed to be part of the Woodside UMC family and invite all to worship with us and share the love of Jesus Christ and witness the power of God through the Holy Spirit as we spread the Holy Word.
